it's been a long time...

it's been a long time...

Hello!! I haven't been doing too well at being a techy website person. I guess this is something that I need to work on. Haha

2018 has been a good year so far. I have been using the long winter to get to work on new material! I have had a few first time experiences in the last month too. I participated in my first indoor art festival and also in my first live art event. The indoor art festival was the Spring Bloom Fine Art Festival and it was located at The Brown Ballroom at ISU. It was held on a gloomy rainy St. Patrick's Day. I was happy when I sold a handful of pieces. Especially when I sold 4 pieces to one lady alone. That really made me happy. :D

The live art event was an outstanding experience.  It is called 8 to Create and it was held at the Link Gallery at U of I, in Champaign, Illinois. I was one of eight artists invited to participate. We each had 8 hours to create a large scale piece of art. I am not used to working under time constraints so it was a bit of a challenge. But it was thoroughly enjoyable and I loved hearing feedback from a constantly changing audience throughout the day. On top of that, the organization of college students who put this event on, worked their butts off and it showed! It was a really cool event and I always enjoy spending the day collaging with my best friend and boyfriend, Rex by my side! And I was also in the company of my good friend Olee who is a Senior at U of I. As as artist, you can't bet a day filled with friends, art, coffee, and creation!

So overall, March was a really great month! I am learning more and more each day of what I am capable of when I put my mind to it. I enjoy taking on new challenges and striving to create new art that is unlike anything that I have made before. I am continuing to apply to all kinds of different art shows and events. I have been rejected and wait listed for a few things but also accepted into other festivals. I try not to get discouraged and keep moving forward! The only constant in life is change and what is meant to be will happen!

So here I am, a week into April. I have a festival in two weeks on Earth Day and my 30th birthday will also fall in the same week! I am working away because I am hoping to be very busy this summer. We will see once the deadlines come but until then, I will continue to create the art that I want to make!

Happy Creating and Happy April!

L o v e,

Rae Newell
